Barry earned his BSN at Temple University in 1980, and his DO degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. He interned at the Hospital of PCOM and St. Agnes Medical Center in 1988-89, and completed an Emergency Medicine Residency as Chief Resident in 1992 at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA.  Board certified in 1994, he cofounded an Emergency Medical Services fellowship while faculty at Einstein, leaving that institution in 1997 for a stint as Medical Director for an Occupational Medicine Clinic (NovaCare) in Langhorne, PA. He continues to teach all levels of medical provider, having held academic appointments from PCOM, Temple University, and Thomas Jefferson University in the past.

Dr. Burton is still certified as a prehospital physician provider by the PA Department of Health, Bureau of EMS, having over 40 years of experience in EMS from shortly after its initial description to the present. He serves as a medical advisor to the Bucks County Technical Rescue Task Force, the Bucks County Hazardous Incident Response Team, and Bucks County Rescue Squad in Bristol, PA.
