Introducing the Eileen Martinson ’86 Fund for the Undergraduate Capstone Experience A key element of the Kanbar College’s awardwinning curriculum is the undergraduate capstone experience in which seniors work together in transdisciplinary teams coached by faculty advisors to work on real-world problems for actual external customers. Eileen Martinson ’86, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, identified these unique training opportunities as critical to students gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century workplace, and has invested $1 million in support of these capstone projects. Outside of industry-sponsored projects, the Martinson Fund will be the primary source of support of these experiences. Her generosity will provide materials, supplies, and operational funding to “kick-start” each project team. Her funding will encourage the teams to disseminate their work by presenting at undergraduate research conferences and publishing their findings in journals and industry trade publications. It will also provide students the opportunity to record and document their work through video and to create high-quality prototypes. Highlights 2012-2013 • 63
